About Tori O’Neal-McElrath
Tori O’Neal-McElrath brings more than 20 years
of experience in the philanthropic and nonprofit arenas, having
served in various capacities: board member, consultant, executive
director, grantmaker, senior and mid level staff, and volunteer.
Prior to launching O’Neal Consulting Services
in 2000, Tori was the Program Director for a funding collaboration
in Southern California. Prior to that, she was the Director of
Special Programs at The San Diego, where she was tasked to create
a new department focused on individual giving (scholarships),
community funds, and capacity building for nonprofit organizations
with endowments at the foundation. Her nonprofit experience includes
Executive Director for The Price Scholarship Program, Vice President
for Development at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, and Associate
Development Director at The College Fund/UNCF in Los Angeles.
Most recently, Tori was tapped by the Alliance for
Nonprofit Management to write the 3rd Edition
of Winning Grants, Step by Step. The book, published
by Jossey-Bass, will be released in late August 2008.
Tori is a member of various philanthropic and nonprofit
professional organizations including: Alliance
for Nonprofit Management (the Alliance), Association
of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE), Association
of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Black Philanthropic
Alliance (BPA), Maryland
Nonprofits, the National Network
of Consultants to Grantmakers (NNCG) and Organizational
Development Network.
She also participates as a leader and volunteer
with nonprofit and civic organizations. Currently, she is a co-chair
of the new 1KClub at the Washington
Area Women’s Foundation. The 1KClub’s mission
is to engage a new legion of women philanthropists and is targeting
1,000 women in the Washington Metropolitan Area to give $1,000
over two years, which will translate into $1 million in unrestricted
revenue to The Women’s Foundation, and 1,000 women of all
ages, races and ethnicities as philanthropists in their own right.
Tori is also a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta, Potomac
Valley Chapter and a member of Jack & Jill of Montgomery
County Maryland Chapter.
